For players who remember rebuilding every loadout after reaching Prestige, Modern Warfare 4 is taking a less rigid approach. Multiplayer progression will split into Classic Prestige and Regular Prestige once the maximum Soldier Rank is reached. That choice matters, especially if you're short on playtime. Two Routes With Different Costs

It's the safer pick for anyone focused on weapon mastery or consistent match setups. Infinity Ward hasn't revealed the XP increase, full reward pool, rank ceiling, or number of Prestige levels yet.

Weapons May Shape Your Decision

The returning Gunsmith system shares certain attachments across weapon classes, so repeating the same unlock work should happen less often. Apex Attachments add another layer. They're earned by fully progressing individual weapons and can alter handling, firing behaviour, stealth, or tactical use. The unanswered bit is important: Infinity Ward hasn't said whether Classic Prestige resets weapon levels or Apex progress. Before choosing a route, players should consider these points in order.

Check whether current weapon progress will be retained.
Compare the announced XP increase with the reset cost.
Review the rewards offered by each route.
Confirm whether paths can be changed at later Prestige levels.

What Players Can Test Before Release

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, with Campaign Early Access starting October 16 for eligible digital preorders. Multiplayer beta access runs from August 21 to August 25 for qualifying preorder players, followed by open access from August 28 through September 1. That test period should give players a feel for Gunsmith, the Gunny loadout assistant, Ballistic Authority, and the new maps.
